Abstract Nama : Nurhayati Student No. : 1209200080059 Department/Program : Bahasa Inggris /S2 Title : The Use of Question- Answer Relationship (QAR) Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension (An Experimental Research at MTsN 7 Aceh Besar) Key words: Question Aswer Relationship (QAR), Reading Comprehension. The objective of study is to investigate the effect of implementation of Question Aswer Relationship(QAR) strategy in teaching reading comprehension at the third year students of MTsN 7 Aceh Besar.This study employed true experimental in which there were two classes taken as the sample, namely a control group which consists of 21 students and an experimental group that consists of 23 students. they were taken through random sampling tehnique. In addition, the data were collected through quantitative and qualitative method.The quantitative data were obtained from the result of the pre-test and post-test scores of the students’reading. The qualitative data were obtained from the questionaire distributed at the end of teaching to identify the students’ responses toward the implementation of QAR stategy in reading class. The result of the quantitative data analysis can be seen from the result of the post-test for each group in which the mean of the post-test score of the experimental group is 73.69 while the mean of the post-test scores of control gropup is 65.64. By comparing t-test score and ttable scre, it shows that the result of t-test is 3.08. while the result of t-table at a level of significance with α = 0,05 is 2,021. It means that t-test score is higher than t-table score.The results of this finding indicate that alternatve hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected because the students of experimental class achieved better score than those in control class. Moreover, the students’ responses toward the use of QAR strategy in learning reading comprehension were quite positive(80.9%). Finally, it can be inferred that QAR strategy is an effective strategy in teaching reading comprehension at the third year students of MTsN 7 Aceh Besar. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji pengaruh dari penerapan strategi QAR ( Question Answer Relationship) dalam pengajaran membaca terhadap siswa kelas tiga MTsN 7 Aceh Besar. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian eksperimen murni yang menggunakan dua kelas sebagai sampel yaitu kelas control yang terdiri dari 21 siswa dan kelas eksperimen yang terdiri dari 23 siswa. Mereka dipilih secara acak. Selanjutnya,data dikumpulkan pada penelitian ini berupa data kuantitatif dan data kualitatif.Data kuantitatif diperoleh melalui hasil pre-test dan post-test. Sedangkan data kualitatif diperoleh melalui angket yang dibagikan kepada siswa pada akhir pengajaran untuk mengetahui respon mereka terhadap penerapan strategi QAR pada kelas reading. Hasil analisa data kuantitatif dapat dilihat dari hasil post-test untuk setiap kelas dimana nilai ratarata pada kelas eksperimen 73,69 sementara pada kelas kontrol nilai rata-rata adalah 65.64. Dengan membandingkan nilai t-test dan t-table, ini dapat dilihat bahwa nilai t-test 3.08 sementara nilai t-table pada taraf signifikasi ...=0,05 adalah 2,021.maka terlihat bahwa nilai t-test lebih besar dibandingkan nilai t-table. Hasil dari temuan tersebut menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima sementara hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak karena siswa dikelas eksperimen memperoleh nilai lebih baik dari pada siswa di kelas kontrol. Selain itu hasil analisis kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa respon siswa terhadap penerapan strategi QAR dalam pembelajaran reading comprehension sangat positif (80.9%). Akhirnya dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi QAR merupakan strategi yang efektif untuk digunakan dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca pada kelas tiga MTsN 7Aceh Besar.
