Abstrak/Catatan Abstract Name : Zulfahmi Rizki Student No : 1206102020073 Study Program : English Education Title : A Comparative Study on Students’ Listening Ability between Boarding and Non-Boarding School (A Case Study at SMA Negeri 1 Peukan Bada and Al-Manar Islamic Boarding School) Keywords: Listening Skill, Boarding School, Non-Boarding School. The teaching strategies to improve students’ English language skill in boarding school and non-boarding school are different, which may give different learning achievement. However, the achievement of students at boarding school and non-boarding school has not been demonstrated. The aim of this study is to find out the different of listening ability between students in boarding school and students in non-boarding school. This study was conducted at both boarding and non-boarding school. Second-grade students from SMA 1 Peukan Bada and Al-Manar Islamic Boarding School was selected as sample of this study. The method of this study was comparative study. The writer used a set of tests as an instrument of this study. The result of listening test from both school become the main data of this study. The data was calculated by using statistical formula which was available on SPSS and revealed different score of listening test for both school. The mean score of the data from boarding school was 65.8 whereas the mean score of the data from non-boarding school was 51.1. Based on Mann-Whitney test, the difference between mean score in boarding school and those in non-boarding school was significant. The result also proved that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected (0.000 ≤ 0.05). Therefore, it is recommended that non-boarding school adopt strategies applied in boarding school. | |
