Abstrak/Catatan Abstract Keywords: Immersive Strategy, English Video Clips, Audios, Speaking Proficiency, Motivation This study aimed to investigate the effects of immersive strategy with English video clips and with audios on students’ speaking proficiency and motivation. It studied fourty five year eleventh students at SMAS Raudhatul Fuqara’ Paya Bakong, North Aceh. The students were grouped into two classes, namely video class and audio class and both were treated as experimental classes. The researcher taught speaking by using immersive strategy with English video clips in the first experimental class and using immersive strategy with audios in the second experimental class. Tests and questionnaires were used as the data collection instruments. The tests were given to evaluate students’ speaking proficiency while the questionnaire were distributed to students to find out their motivation in learning speaking. The data from the tests were then analyzed by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) looking at statistical procedures which include mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The data from questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistic. The t-test result for pre-test which was compared to post-test for both video and audio experimental classes were found to be statistically significant (p=0.000) which was lower than significance degree (0.05). This finding indicates that immersive strategy with English video clips and with audios improves speaking proficiency. More specifically, the results also showed that the improvement in video class was higher than that in audio class. In addition, based on the questionnaire analyses of video and audio classes, it is found that the immersive strategy stimulates students’ motivation in learning speaking. The data also showed that students’ motivation in video class was stronger than that in audio class. However, there is no significant difference in terms of students’ motivation in learning speaking between students in both video and audio classes. | |
