Abstrak/Catatan Abstract Name : Jihan Nazira Student No. : 1606102020026 Study Program : English Education Department Title : Women’s Language as Reflected in the Novel Floating in Space by Naela Ali Keywords: Women’s language features, Floating in Space. This study aims to investigate the women’s language features in the Novel Floating in Space by Naela Ali. Unlike other women language studies, the data in this study were not only collected from the female characters but also from the male characters’ written text. In analyzing and categorizing the data, the theory of women language features by Robin Lakoff (2004; 1975) was used. There were eight features with 520 total frequency were found in the novel; lexical hedges or fillers (222), tag question (12), empty adjective (134), precious color term (10), intensifiers (113), super-polite form (26), avoidance of strong swear words (1), and emphatic stress (2). One feature was not appeared in the novel which was hypercorrect grammar. This study also proof that the representation of women’s language features by Naela Ali not only happened in female characters but also in male characters. | |
