Abstract Name : Annisa Aprilya Student No : 1506102020041 Study Program : English Education Department Title : An Analysis of Personification Used in Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Invincible albums Keywords: Literature, Personification, Types of Personification, Song Lyrics This research is literature study which aims to figure out the types of personification used in Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Invincible albums. The sources of data were 19 songs taken from Thriller and Invincible albums by Michael Jackson and the lyrics of the songs. The research design used in this study was a descriptive qualitative research with documentation analysis as the technique of data collection. The result showed that there were 65 personification expressions found in the albums. Those 65 personifications were categorized into four types of personification as proposed by Dorst et al. (2011) namely: conventionalized personification (33 expressions), novel personification (20 expressions), default personification (12 expressions) and personification-with-metonymy (0 expressions). There is one of the types of personification had not been found in this study, because of some reasons the researcher can suggest the future researchers, who interested in conducting literature research especially in personification can find one of the types that had not been found in this study by using the different theories with the same data or different data so that all types of personification found in the song can be discussed totally.
