PEMBUATAN PRODUK SAFETY HELMET MENGGUNAKAN MATERIAL KOMPOSIT BERBAHAN SERAT E-GLASS SAID JAMALUDDIN NIM : 1604002010002 Jurusan Teknik Mesin, Program Diploma III Fakultas Teknik Universitas Syiah Kuala Email : saidjamaluddin1999@gmail.com Abstract Safety helmet is a protective device that must be used to protect the head from the danger of falling objects. The high number of work accidents in Indonesia is caused by not using safety helmets while working. Composite is one of the materials which is widely used because it has advantages over its mechanical properties, is corrosion resistant and has a lighter density. Technological developments, especially in the composite field, have begun to increase. Composites derived from engineering materials are made by combining two types of materials that have different properties into a new material with new properties. The development of safety protective products has used composite materials. E-glass composite material has material properties that have light weight, have high corrosion resistance, and have high strength. The object made is molding and safety helmet products. The material used in the manufacture of safety helmet products is a composite type of E-glass fiber. The process of making safety helmets using the hand lay-up method, the costs incurred making molding and safety helmet composite material products, consists of the cost of purchasing raw materials and the costs of making molding and products. Products made will be used by construction workers. The research objective was to determine the process of making molding and safety helmet products using E-glass type composite materials, the characteristics of E-glass type materials on the product, creating safety helmet products that can be used by construction workers and gaining knowledge about the molding safety helmet process.
