Tesis Magister Program Pascasarjana Universitas Syiah Kuala, dibawah bimbingan Muyassir dan Syakur ABSTRAK Penelitian bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh pertumbuhan berbagai jenis padi lokal tipe baru dengan pemberian berbagai jenis amelioran seperti kompos jerami padi dan biochar sekam padi pada lahan sawah bukaan baru. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode rancangan acak kelompok pola faktorial. Faktor pertama adalah jenis padi tipe baru terdiri atas 3 taraf yaitu Sanberasi U1, Sanberasi U3, dan Inpari 30 sedangkan faktor kedua adalah bahan ameliorasi tanah yang terdiri atas 3 taraf yaitu kontrol, biochar sekam padi dan kompos jerami padi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahan amelioran berupa kompos jerami padi dan biochar dari sekam padi sebanyak 20 ton per hektar belum mampu meningkatkan kualitas tanah sawah bukaan baru pada periode tanam pertama, kompos jerami padi dan biochar sekam padi dapat meningkatkan pertumbuhan padi lokal tipe baru yang ditanam pada sawah bukaan baru dan jenis padi lokal tipe baru galur Sanberasi U3 menunjukkan pertumbuhan terbaik terhadap penggunaan biochar sekam padi, lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan varietas nasional.
