Abstract Name : Rini Arnita Sari Student’s Number : 1309200080073 Department/Program : English Education/Postgraduate Title : The Impact of Video clips on Student’s Speaking Skill and Motivation Keywords: Video Clips, Speaking Skill, Motivation This research aimed to investigate the impact of video clips on student’s speaking skill and motivation. It researched at the Second Grade of State Junior High School 2 (SMPN) 2, Lhokseumawe. The research employed the pre-test and post-test design. The sample by using random sampling through lottery technique and the total sample is 64. The experimental group was given the special treatment using video and the control group was given another technique without video, namely textbook-based as the teacher usually does. Test and questionnaire were used as data collection instruments in this research. The tests were given to evaluate student’s speaking skill while the questionnaires were distributed to students to find the students’ motivation responds in learning speaking. The data from the tests were then analyzed by using SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) looking at statistical procedures which include mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The data from questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistical. The t-test result for pre-test which was compared to post-test both experimental and control group were found to be statistically significant (p=0,000) which was lower than significance degree (0.05). This finding indicates that video clips improve speaking skill. The result of questionnaire shows that using video clips effective for all students. Comparing students’ achievement in both male and female, it found that there is no significant difference in terms of pronunciation, fluency, performance and grammar.
