Abstract Name : Annas Student No. : 1409200080017 Department/Program : English Education/ Graduate [S2] Title : __________________________________________________________________ Keywords: Two Stay Two Stray, Speaking Skill, Motivation This is a quantitative experimental study with the aim of finding out the effect of using two stay two stray techniques to develop young learners’ speaking skill, and motivation. The method used in this study is one group pretest and posttest design and the instrument used are pretest, posttest and questionnaire. The population of this study is SMPN2 Idi Timur and the samples are the second grade students at SMPN2 Idi Timur and chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The students’ achievement was tested by using tests and the motivation of students to speak English is measured by using questionnaire. Pretest was conducted before the experiment in order to know the students’ score before the treatment. On the contrary, posttest was conducted to know the students’ achievement after the treatment. To analyze the data, T-score was used. The result of the posttest showed that the mean score of the pretest experimental group is 54.3 and the score of the posttest experimental group is 65.5. The result of T-score is 9.37. The critical value of t-table at the level significant 0.05 is 2.06 and at the level of significant 0.01 is 2.78 with the degree of freedom 25. Since the result of t-test is higher than t-table, the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It proved the the using if two stay two stray technique can improve speaking skill for young learners. Regarding motivation, students’ opinion about motivation in speaking English and the results of their pretest, according to students of SMPN 02 Idi are contradictory. Based on some answers in the questionnaire, students showed lack of interest in developing their English speaking skill. On the other hand, more than 50% students chose that they practice continuously so their English speaking ability is better than other. This means, students are still not aware whether they are motivated or not in speaking English.
