ABSTRAK Masyarakat nelayan identik dengan pendidikan rendah. Selain dari segi ekonomi yang rendah pendidikan anak-anak nelayan juga rendah. Hal ini terjadi dikarenakan orang tua tidak memberikan pemahaman yang baik kepada anak tentang pendidikan. Kesadaran moral keluarga sangat dibutuhkan untuk meningkatkan minat anak nelayan dalam mendapatkan pendidikan sebaik mungkin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menjelaskan kesadaran moral keluarga nelayan terhadap pendidikan anak. Peneliti ingin menggambarkan bagaimana pemahaman keluarga nelayan terhadap pendidikan dan faktor penyebab yang mempengaruhi kesadaran moral keluarga nelayan di Gampong Kuala Raja Kec. Kota Juang Kab. Bireuen. Dalam penelitian ini penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang digunakan berupa data primer dan sekunder, dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui metode wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa pemahaman keluarga nelayan tentang pentingnya pendidikan masih rendah. Menurut mereka, pendidikan yang tinggi itu tidak terlalu diperlukan, bisa membaca dan menulis saja sudah cukup. Penyebab yang mempengaruhi tingkat pendidikan anak nelayan rendah bukan hanya dari pemahaman orang tua dan didikan tentang pendidikan yang rendah, melainkan ada faktor lain seperti pengaruh lingkungan, ekonomi, teman bermain,dan keluarga. Tempat anak-anak nelayan berinteraksi dan masyarakat nelayan yang tidak terlalu memperdulikan pendidikan menjadi penyebab anak-anak nelayan juga tidak terlalu memperdulikan pendidikan mereka. Tidak adanya didikan dari orang tua untuk bersekolah setinggi mungkin dan tidak adanya dukungan dari lingkungan menyebabkan tingkat pendidikan anak nelayan menjadi rendah. Kata kunci : Moral, Nelayan, Pendidikan. ABSTRACT The society of fishermen is identical with low education. Apart from the economic aspect, the education of the fishermen's children is also low. This occurs because parents do not give their children a good understanding about education. Moral awareness in family is needed to increase the interest of fishermen’s children in getting the best possible education. This study aimed to identify and explain the moral awareness of fishermen families towards children education. The writer wanted to describe how the understanding of fishermen’s family about education and the causative factors that affected the moral awareness of fishermen families in Gampong Kuala Raja, district of Kota Juang, Bireuen. A descriptive qualitative was used as the method in this study. The data used were the primary and secondary data, also the data were collected through interviewing, observing, and documenting. The results of this study indicate that the understanding of fishermen families about the importance of education is still low. According to them, high education is not really necessary; able to read and write is already good enough for them. The causes that affect the low level of education of fishermen’s children are not only come from parents’ comprehension about education, but there are other factors such as the environment, economy aspect, playmate, and family. The place where children interact and society which not really care about education cause the fishermen’s children not really pay attention to their education. The absence of upbringing from parents to go to school as high as possible and the lack of support from the environment lead the low level of education of the fishermen’s children.
