Abstrak/Catatan Speaking is one of English skills should be mastered by students in schools. However, for most of the students experience difficulties to develop their speaking skills. This research was intended to describe the implementation of the role play technique in improving students’ speaking skills and the students’ responses toward the implementation of the role play technique at SMA Negeri 2 Banda Aceh in class 2 MIPA1. The method used in this research was a descriptive qualitative study. To collect the data, the researcher used an observation sheet, interview guide, field notes, and a questionnaire. The researcher adapts the theory from Hartmann, Doree & Martin (2008). The English teacher implemented the role play technique to teach speaking skill was successful, even though she modified it. Furthermore, the teacher used an unscripted role play. The students’ responses were enthusiastic. They enjoyed learning English and communicated better through the role play technique. | |
