Abstrak/Catatan As one of the language skills, speaking is learned in schools both at the level of junior and senior high school. However, for most of students speaking is considered as the most difficult skill. This research was aimed at describing the students’ perceptions toward the use of feedback used by the teacher in correcting their oral errors and the kinds of feedback made by the teacher in correcting students’ oral errors in class XI IPA 5 at SMAN 4 Banda Aceh. The design of this study was a descriptive qualitative study. To obtain the data, the writer used questionnaire and observation. There are 6 kinds of feedback in correcting students’ oral errors namely explicit correction, recast, elicitation, clarification request, repetition of error and metalinguistic feedback (Lyster & Ranta, 1997). The result of data from questionnaire in this study shows that the students have positive attitude toward the feedback used by the teacher. While, the result of data from observation reveals the kind of feedback mostly used by the teacher in correcting students’ oral errors is recast (49%). Whereas, metalinguistic feedback (3%) is the less frequent of feedback type used by the teacher in correcting the errors made by the students. | |
