Key words:Humor, Perceptions, Teaching English The objective of this study is to investigate the students’ perceptions toward teacher’s humor in teaching English. The qualitative approach was used in this research study. This study focused on analyzing the perceptions ofsecond grade students in an English class towards their teacher’shumor when teaching English.The Subjects of this study wereall studens of asecond year class of SMPN7 Banda Aceh.The instruments used to collect the data werethe quesionnaire and class observation.The result of the test was analyzed by using data reduction, data display and conclusion.The result of the research showed thatthe majority of students believed the teacher’s humor could prevent them from feeling stress of learning English, developed a better relationship between teacher and students, helped them remember and understand the lesson, encouraged them to be more active in the classroom, and eased them in learning English.The English teachers need to build a good relationship and mutual trust with students and get to understand their interests, likes and dislikes, so that their humor would be more likely to be welcomed and any failure would cause less damage.
