Abstrak/Catatan

This study is about categories of teacher’s talks. The purpose of this study is to find out the categories of teacher’s talk that occur in English teaching learning process at grade XI-3at SMA 10 Fajar Harapan according to Moskowitz (1971) Foreign Language Interaction Analysis (FLINT). The subjects of this study were 28 students and an English teacher of class XI-3 SMA 10 Fajar Harapan Banda Aceh. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative analysis. The instruments that were used in this study were observation, video recording, and interview. The data of this study are taken from the teacher’s talk by the teacher who taught in this class. In order to analyze the data, the writer used the procedure proposed by Miles & Huberman (1984) to obtain a clear view of the categories of teacher’s talk that happened in the class. The result of this study shows that the most dominant type applied by the teacher is giving information (28.2%), followed by asking question (24.2%), next using ideas of students (13.1%) and the lowest frequency is dealing with feelings (1.5%). In this class indirect and direct teacher’s talk have the balanced proportion. So it can be concluded that the teacher of XI 3 grade SMA 10 Fajar Harapan Banda Aceh try to make this class balanced between teacher’s talk and students’ talk.
