ABSTRAK Softlens atau lensa kontak adalah salah satu alat kedokteran yang bertujuan sebagai pengganti kacamata bagi penderita yang memiliki penglihatan kurang. Kurangnya pengetahuan pemakaian lensa kontak yang bisa berakibat fatal bagi pemakainya salah satunya adalah iritasi mata. Iritasi mata merupakan rasa tidak nyaman yang biasanya di permukaan mata. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan tingkat pengetahuan pemakai lensa kontak dengan kejadian iritasi mata pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Syiah Kuala. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan potong lintang (Cross sectional). Populasi pada penelitian ini sebanyak 60 orang yang merupakan Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Syiah Kuala, dengan jumlah sampel yang memenuhi kriteria sebanyak 32 orang dengan teknik pengambilan sampel yaitu menggunakan purposive sampling dan analisis data yang digunakan yaitu Chi-Square test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan antara tingkat pengetahuan pemakai lensa kontak dengan kejadian iritasi mata (p-value 0,007 < 0,05) dalam kategori hubungan “sedang” (Contingency Coefficient (CC)sebesar 0,529). Simpulan, semakin baik tingkat pengetahuan Mahasiswi akan pemakaian lensa kontak maka semakin menurun akan terjadinya iritasi mata. Kata Kunci: Lensa Kontak (Softlens), Pengetahuan, Iritasi Mata. ABSTRACT Softlens or contact lens is a medical tool that aims to be as replacement of eyeglasses for people with abnormalities of refraction. A lack of knowledge on using the contact lense affects negatively to the users, like an eye irritation. The objective of this research was to find out the relation of the contact lense users’ knowledge level with the incidence of eye irritation on the Students of Medical Education in Medical Faculty, Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh. The type of research was analytical descriptive with a cross sectional approach. The population of this research was 60 students of Medical Education in Medical Faculty, Syiah Kuala University. The total of sample that fulfilled the criteria were 32 people selected through a purposive sampling as a technique of sample selection. The data analysis used was a Chi-Square test. The results of research showed that there was a relation between the conntact lense users’ knowledge level with the incidence of eye irritation (p-value 0.007 < 0.05), which was classified into into a “medium” category (contigency coefficient) (CC) for 0.529. The conclusion is that the better level of knowledge regarding the use of contact lense the students own, the more reduction of the rate of eye irritation occurs.This type of research is descriptive analytic cross sectional (cross-sectional.
