Abstract Name : Rizkiati Student Number : 0806102020061 Study Program : English Department Title : The Students’ Performance in Comprehending Hortatory Text (A Descriptive Quantitative at SMA N 11 Banda Aceh) This study aimed at revealing the types of the difficulties faced by students in comprehending reading texts especially hortatory text. It is seen in the most difficult aspects in reading comprehension and in reading hortatory text. This study used a descriptive quantitative research method. The research subject of this study is the third grade students of SMAN 11 Banda Aceh. The instrument used is test which consists of two texts of hortatory exposition. The data were analyzed based on the students’ false answer in reading comprehension (main idea, detail, inferring, and vocabulary) and in reading hortatory exposition text (schematic structure and linguistic feature). The result shows that the students chose false answers in both type of tests (reading comprehesion skill test and reading hortatory exposition text test). In reading comprehesion skill test, the students` true answer in reading comprehension skill test are 50.87 % (757 items) and the false answers are 731 items (49.12 %). The students made the highest false answer in main idea aspect 33.78 % (247 items of 731 items). While in reading hortatory exposition text test, the true answers produced from 93 students are 218 items (29.30 %) and the false answers are 526 items (70.69 %). The highest students` false answer in aspect of reading hortatory exposition text test is semantic structure 53.99 % (284 items) and the lowest false answer is language feature 46.00 % (242 items).
