this study is aimed at finding out how information gap technique improves the students’ speaking ability as well as how the technique promotes the students’ english speaking ability. to obtain the data for this study, the researcher conducted a quantitative experimental research by using the one group pre-test post-test design at second year students of mtss al-muslimun, lhoksukon, aceh utara. there are four classes for the second year namely viiia, viiib, viiic and viiid. the viiia with 30 students was chosen as a sample randomly by using lottery. the instrument used for both pretest and posttest was in dialogue test related to asking and giving opinion expression. there were four times meeting in this study. the
