Abstrak

Keyword : writing, recount text, mind mapping this study aims at examining whether the use of mind mapping technique improves students’ ability in writing recount text or not. quantitative approach with experimental study of pretest - posttest control group design was undertaken to overcome the problems faced by students in learning writing skill. the instrument used to collect the data in this study by means of the test in the form of written test. the result of the test analyzed by using writing criteria proposed by brown (2004). in addition, some statistical formula were also used to analyze the data. the researcher found that the t-score of this study is higher than the score in the t-table (t = 3.17 >t_t=1.67 ). here, it means that ha is accepted and ho is rejected. from the results of the study revealed there is a significant improvement on students’ ability in writing recount text after the mind mapping technique implemented. thus, mind mapping can be one of alternative
