AbstrakThis qualitative research aims at investigating teacher’s strategy in coaching english debate in english debate class in sman modal bangsa, aceh. it also finds out factors that trigger modal bangsa senior high school students’ achievements in english debate competition. the participants of this research were 17 students and 4 teachers. the instruments for this research were interview guide and observation sheet. the data were then analyzed by using conventional content analysis and document analysis. the findings of the study showed that the coach used some approaches and methods of teaching in coaching english debate class. the approaches used by coaches are open students’ mindset, grouping the students and creating good relationship. there are four kinds of method of teaching used by the coach, such as teacher center, cooperative learning, plus minus interesting and practice debate process. besides useing some approaches and method of teaching, there are some factors that trigger
