this study is about “teaching speaking skill by using group work (an experimental study at the second grade students of sman 1 glumpang tiga)”. the purpose of this study is to identify whether group work technique can improve students’ speaking ability. the population in this study is all of the second year students at sman 1 glumpang tiga. the samples in this study was one class which consisted of 30 students that taken by using random sampling. there were two test: pre-test and post-test. the result of the test showed that there was significant different of the students’ ability in speaking ability between pre-test and post-test after teaching by using group work technique. to prove the hypothesis, the
