this research aimed to find out there are any differences of english writing ability between male and female junior high school students in smpn 19 banda aceh. this research was conducted by giving test to smpn 19 male and female students and then describing the results of the test based on the genders. the results showed that the female students scored higher than the male students in five aspects of writing. female students scored an average score of 85.47 while male students scored an average score of 74.13. in organization, female students gained an upper hand for their ability in writing things in chronological order. in content, female students were more adapt at developing their stories. in grammar, both male and female
