Abstrak

The objective of this study is to find out whether information gap technique can improve students’ speaking ability of junior high school students. to obtain the data for this study, the writer conducted an experimental study at smpn 4 banda aceh. the second grade students were taken as the population of this study. there are three classes for the second grade that were viii-1, viii-2, and viii-3. as the sample, class viii-1 was as an experimental class and viii-2 was as a control class. the total number of the sample 60 students. the students’ achievement or performance was scored by using pretest and posttest. to find out the result of this study, the writer used t-score formula. the result of the test showed that the t-score of this research is 2.45 and the critical value of t-score in significant of 0.05 stated at 1.67 based on the t-distribution table with the degree of freedom (df) 58. the result of t-score was higher than the t-table; therefore, the alternative hypothesis that
