most of the second grade students at man rukoh banda aceh had limited vocabulary, therefore the writer carried out some treatments to overcome the problem. this study aims at examining whether the use of crossword puzzle designed by using crossword compiler software affects the students’ performance in learning vocabulary in reading, which focused on the language features of hortatory exposition text. quantitative approach with experimental study of one group pretest-posttest design was applied. the population of this study was 156 students of the second grade at man rukoh banda aceh. 27 students (xi-2 science
